I’ve been following Kyra Young’s case, and it’s deeply troubling how common this kind of violence is becoming in parts of Chicago. What really stands out to me is how she was just with a group of friends, and in an instant, everything changes because of a car passing by with intent to harm. It’s a haunting reminder that safety feels so fragile for so many in these neighborhoods. I can’t even begin to imagine what her family and friends are going through. This should never be normal anywhere. The community really needs more attention and support to create spaces where young people like Kyra can feel safe. It’s just incredibly sad to see potential stolen away like this. What more can be done to protect our kids and neighborhoods?
