I've been thinking about the role of the stolen car in this tragic situation and how it ultimately led to Darnell Cotton's death. It's so sad to see a young life end because of a series of poor decisions. I'm not here to defend what Darnell did by any means, but the question of how we can prevent something like this happening again is something we really need to tackle. Was there a system failure somewhere? Could there have been intervention points before things escalated to this fatal chase? It's hard not to feel for DC's family, friends, and everyone involved in sorting out what justice should look like in such a complex situation. My thoughts are with them as they navigate through this difficult time. If anyone has insights into how communities are helping guide youth away from these paths, I'd love to hear more about it.
