I was just thinking about how sad it must be for Ms. Webber’s family and friends right now. Watching the news unfold over these past few weeks, it’s clear how deeply rooted she was in the community. Many of us never met her, but the stories from her neighbors about her kindness and friendly waves paint a picture of someone truly cherished. It’s also unsettling to think about how close-knit neighborhoods can suddenly be rocked by such unexpected violence. While the recent arrest brings some comfort, I can’t help but wonder if we really understand how vulnerable elderly individuals might be in their own homes. It’s admirable that local groups are stepping up to support seniors, but how often do we check in on our own older relatives or neighbors? We need to make sure these initiatives have staying power so we can prevent more tragic stories like Ms. Webber’s. My thoughts are with everyone who knew her and is grappling with this loss.
