Does anyone else find it odd that William G. Dolan chose to swim across a channel at 9:30 p.m.? I understand it was summer, but still, it's pretty late for a swim, especially across a 300-foot channel. Was it common for people around Sodus Point to attempt such swims at night during that era, or could there have been something specific prompting him to do it at that hour? Just thinking that maybe there's more to the story than a simple evening swim gone wrong. Has anyone come across details about why he chose that specific time or if it was a spontaneous decision?
Has anyone else looked into the weather conditions the night William G. Dolan went missing? I've done some digging, and it seems there was a cold snap and strong winds in the Sodus Point area that evening. I'm no expert, but wouldn't the combination of cold water and struggling to swim in those conditions potentially lead to exhaustion or even hypothermia? That could have made it much harder for Dolan to make it across. It's just so perplexing that his body was never found, even after such a thorough search. I wonder if the weather contributed to the currents taking him further out than expected. Thoughts?
