I was thinking today about Arteco Rhodes, known by many as "AJ." It’s deeply saddening to realize that he was just 24 when he was taken from his family and friends. It seems that every account of AJ paints him as a warm and bright person who had so much potential. He was caught in a cycle of violence that no one should have to face.
It's chilling to think about how his death was one of several that year in Humboldt Park. The ongoing violence there is a harsh reality that too many communities endure. I’m reminded of how his life is part of the National Gun Violence Memorial, which really drives home the personal stories behind these tragedies.
My heart goes out to AJ's family and friends who have had to endure this immense loss. It really makes me wonder how many more stories like AJ's will need to be told before significant changes take place. If anyone has information on potential community initiatives or ways to support these families, I’d love to hear more. Every small effort counts in this fight.
