I keep thinking about how KJ was just a kid, enjoying his new bike, probably laughing and having the time of his life until things took such a horrible turn. It's hard to fathom how things escalated so quickly because of a mistake that seemed minor at first. I’ve read that the father, Arkete Davis, had no business having a gun, especially one he clearly couldn’t secure. This just breaks my heart for KJ's family. There are innocent lives at stake when guns aren’t safely secured or kept out of reach, especially around curious kids who don’t understand the full gravity of holding a dangerous weapon. It's chilling to think how, in a split second, everything changed for two families. KJ’s family must be overwhelmed with grief, but I also can’t stop thinking about the boy who fired the shot and how his life is permanently altered too. He shouldn’t have gone through something like this at ten years old. Really wishing strength and healing for everyone affected.
