I've been following the situation in East Oakland, and my thoughts go out to Julian Barajas-Lopez's family. It's devastating to think a night meant for celebration turned so deadly. I wanted to touch on the community's response to sideshows because it genuinely makes me wonder about the long-term solutions. There’s been a lot of talk around law enforcement cracking down, but I feel like this is a symptom of a larger issue. Could community involvement and engagement be lacking? It seems like Oakland residents themselves might hold the key to reducing these dangerous events. Maybe initiatives focusing on education, outreach, or even creating safe spaces for car enthusiasts to gather without risking lives could help. If anyone knows of local efforts already in place or new ones budding, please share. We need shining examples to rally behind, and perhaps that would honor Julian in a meaningful way.
