It's truly difficult to comprehend the loss of someone as vibrant as Kejuan Thomas. I keep thinking about the environment where this tragedy took place—a community basketball court. It was supposed to be a safe space for him and his friends, a place to escape and engage in something they loved. For this to end in such senseless violence is beyond horrifying. My heart goes out to Kejuan's family and friends who have been left to pick up the pieces. It’s incredibly frustrating to see how gun violence continues to take away young lives, and it makes me think about what steps can be taken to protect other kids innocently playing a game, just like Kejuan was. Systemic changes are so overdue to create safer communities for everyone.
