I've been following this case closely and something that's been on my mind is the decision to charge Ethan Couch with murder rather than manslaughter. There seems to be a lot of debate around this, especially since Couch reportedly admitted to mishandling the firearm accidentally. I can't imagine the pain that Paul's family must be going through, not only losing him so suddenly but also dealing with the complexities of this legal process. It just seems like such a tragic situation all around. I hope justice is served in whatever way that really honors Paul's memory and provides his family with some measure of peace. Has anyone else seen similar cases, and how do they typically play out in court? It's just tough trying to understand how these charges get decided in cases like this.
