I came across Jose Romero's case, and even though I never knew him, I feel a deep sense of injustice for what happened to him and so many others in Chicago. It’s infuriating how young men are losing their lives to senseless violence, and yet, as a society, we seem stuck in this cycle. I was reading about the rampant gang conflicts in certain neighborhoods and can't help but wonder why more isn't being done at a community level to create safe spaces for these young people. Does anyone know if there have been any grassroots efforts in the area focusing on intervention and prevention? It just seems like there needs to be a bigger push for community engagement—something to break this dangerous pattern. My heart goes out to Jose's family and everyone who has lost someone to this ongoing epidemic.
