Hey everyone, I've been reading through all the discussions about Theotis Luckett, and I just wanted to share a thought about the environment these kids have to grow up in. It's such a heavy burden for a community to constantly live under the shadow of violence. East Garfield Park isn't just a crime statistic—it's people's homes, their lives, their futures being shaped by this environment. It kills me to think of the potential Theotis had—the dreams his friends and family saw in him that will never come to fruition. Sometimes I wonder what it would take to make these neighborhoods safe again, where kids can just be kids without fear. Maybe more community centers, mentorship programs, or just safe spaces where teens can hang out and not worry about stepping into harm's way. It’s about time that the city and its residents work together to bring about change, nurturing young talents like Theotis and making sure they have the opportunity to grow into the community leaders of tomorrow. My heart goes out to his family and friends as they navigate this devastating loss. They deserve better. Chicago deserves better.
