It's hard not to be moved by the stories about Mi'Rickei McCrary's love for basketball and her aspirations in logistics. I've been thinking a lot about how she was just doing something she loved at the time—playing basketball. It really shows how senseless and random violence can be. The fact that she was out there, trying to enjoy her day and suddenly was taken from this world, really hits home for me.
This also makes me think about her sister, Dianna. The strength it must take for her to return to school at Oakhaven in the wake of this tragedy is truly inspiring. It can’t be easy, especially when they had already faced so many challenges together. I hope Dianna knows that there are people rooting for her, even strangers like myself. Continuing her education is such a beautiful way to honor her sister’s memory.
I encourage anyone who might have even the smallest piece of information about that gray Chevrolet Impala or the suspects to come forward. This family deserves justice and some semblance of peace. It's frustrating that the suspects remain unidentified, but we've seen cases solved with the help of the community before. Let’s hope that happens here too. Keep an eye out and please, call CrimeStoppers if you know anything. Mi'Rickei and her loved ones deserve that much.
