I'm really feeling for Manuel Mendoza’s friends and family right now. It must be incredibly difficult to process such a sudden and senseless loss. What stands out to me is that he was just 18, still so young, with his whole life ahead of him. It's so troubling how violence like this seems to have become almost commonplace in certain areas of Chicago. It's not fair that young people are getting caught up in these cycles through no fault of their own. It seems like the community has been trying to rally and find solutions, but these issues are so deeply rooted. It makes me think about how crucial it is for us to tackle the root causes – like providing better education opportunities and support for jobs and housing. For the people living there, it must be so challenging to feel any sense of safety or hope for the future when these kinds of tragedies continue to happen. I hope Manuel’s family receives the support they need and that his death can be a catalyst for some real change. My thoughts are with everyone affected by this.
