I just wanted to take a moment to talk about the vigil that was held for Jessica and Ailin at Barger Academy. The outpouring of love and support from the community was incredibly moving. It was a beautiful tribute, with so many people coming together to remember their lives. I heard stories about Ailin's infectious laughter and how much she adored her mom. As heartbreaking as it is to see their lives cut so short, it was touching to see how cherished they were by so many. I'm hoping events like these can remind us all of the importance of supporting one another and being vigilant about the signs of domestic abuse. If you or anyone you know is in a situation that feels unsafe, please don’t hesitate to reach out for help. No one should have to endure such pain alone.

I’ve been following the Smith-Gil case closely, and something that sticks with me is the community response post-tragedy. The vigil at Barger Academy really demonstrates how close-knit communities can be, especially in times of unimaginable pain. It’s reassuring to know that in Chattanooga, people come together to support each other through such tragic events. I hope the outpouring of love gives Jessica and Ailin’s family a little bit of strength and comfort. I think it’s also so important that during the vigil, attention was brought to signs of domestic abuse. There’s an urgent need for awareness about these situations—unexplained bruises can seem insignificant until it’s too late. I hope this tragedy sparks conversations and actions within the community to support and protect victims of domestic violence. It just shows how vital it is to listen, observe, and act. My heart truly goes out to their loved ones.
