Every time I think of Alex Yerkey and what happened that day, it just feels so senseless and unfair. I didn't know him personally, but from everything I've read, it’s clear he was a shining light in his community. The passion he had for urban planning and making Pittsburgh a better place is something you don’t come across often, especially in someone so young. A moment that struck me was Mayor Gainey’s tribute. It really drives home how much Alex positively impacted those around him. It’s so important that we don't let this tragic event fade from our memories. We owe it to Alex and his family to not only seek justice but also push for conversations on making our streets safer. If there's a silver lining, it's seeing the community come together to support his family through the GoFundMe page. His legacy shouldn’t just be this tragic end, but all the good he did and would have continued to do. My thoughts are with everyone who knew and loved Alex. We need to keep his spirit alive by making sure something positive comes out of all of this heartbreak.

I'm deeply disturbed by this whole situation with Alexander Patrick Yerkey. It’s hard to shake the image of such a promising young life cut short so suddenly and violently. I recently read about his work with the City of Pittsburgh's Department of Mobility and Infrastructure, and it struck me how dedicated he was to improving his community. It's clear he was passionate about creating safer, more connected spaces, and it's so tragic that his life was ended in an act of violence that goes against everything he worked for. My heart goes out to his family and friends, who not only lost a loved one but also a force of good in the community. I hope that the continued discussions about gun violence and safety lead to meaningful change, so we can honor his legacy by preventing similar tragedies. It’s pathetic how often talented young people who could change the world for the better are taken from us far too soon.
