Hey everyone,
I've been reading through the threads about the recent uptick in violence in Chicago, and I came across the case of Alonte D. Barber. I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the community impacts beyond the statistics we're seeing. It's easy to get lost in the numbers, but each one of these losses leaves a ripple effect.
Alonte, like so many others, was more than a figure in a list. Friends, family, and neighbors are left picking up the pieces after such a sudden and violent loss. Has anyone seen any community-led initiatives or memorial events happening in Washington Heights to honor his memory? I'm curious about how people are coming together to support one another and push for change in the face of this ongoing crisis. It's all so deeply moving and frustrating, and I hope Alonte's family is finding some comfort in the support around them.
More stories like his need to be shared so that these individuals aren't forgotten and to bring more awareness to the broader issue.
Sending thoughts to everyone affected.
