I recently came across the story of José Almonte and felt compelled to share my thoughts. It's truly devastating to see yet another small business owner fall victim to such senseless violence. As someone who frequently shops at local markets, I can't help but feel for José’s family and the close-knit community that's been left reeling from this tragedy. The fact that José had moved to Philadelphia in search of a better future for his family, only to have his life cut short in such a brutal manner, is deeply unsettling. It makes me wonder about the safety measures in place for small businesses, especially in neighborhoods like Brewerytown. How can we work together to ensure that those who contribute so much to our communities are better protected? I hope that the calls for justice from the Dominican Grocers Association lead to meaningful discussion and action. We often talk about change, but it feels more urgent than ever now. My heart goes out to his wife, children, and everyone who knew him. If anyone has further updates on the case or knows of any community initiatives being formed in response, please share. José and his family deserve justice, and the community deserves peace of mind.

Just read about the awful incident at Jefferson Food Market, and my heart goes out to José Alberto Almonte's family. It's shocking to see yet another grocer lose their life like this. The fact that he came here hoping to provide a better life for his family makes this even more tragic. I can't even begin to imagine the pain his family is going through right now. The Dominican Grocers Association is right to call for justice, and I hope the investigation gets the breakthrough it needs soon. It's terrifying to think that this is now the fourth grocer to be killed in under a year. Small business owners deserve to feel safe while working to support their communities. If anyone reading this knows anything, no matter how small, please consider contacting the authorities. José deserves justice, and his family deserves peace.
