I’ve been following the tragic case of Heaven Budd and can’t stop thinking about the profound irony of it all. It’s unsettling to know that this young woman lost her life right next to a mural meant to symbolize peace in our community. Hearing about artist Kyle Holbrook's experience at the scene—it must have been incredibly haunting for him, to be working on something so meaningful while witnessing such violence right beside him. Art should be a sanctuary that fosters healing and reflection, not a backdrop for tragedy. My heart goes out to Heaven's family and friends. I truly hope the community can rally around them and help bring justice for Heaven. It’s important we keep talking about this and not let it slip away from public attention. Stay safe out there, everyone.
Has anyone else been to the vigil held at the "Peace Over Pittsburgh" mural for Heaven Budd? I went by to pay my respects and couldn't help but feel a wave of emotions seeing so many coming together in grief and solidarity. It's surreal how a place meant to inspire hope can become a site of such a tragic loss. Her sisters' words about Heaven being a kind soul really hit home—what is this world coming to when such warmth and kindness is taken away so abruptly? I heard there's a fundraising campaign to help with the funeral costs; it's a small way to show support but maybe the least we can do. Hoping the community can rally together not just in mourning, but in finding a way to prevent future tragedies like this. Does anyone know if there are any more community meetings planned in response? We need more efforts to turn the mural's message into reality. My thoughts are with Heaven's family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.
