Scrolling through the discussions about Tradon Sanders, I keep seeing so many heartfelt tributes from friends and family, and it deeply moves me. I wanted to share my thoughts about the role community plays in healing after such tragedies. From what I gather, Tradon, or "Don Don" to those who loved him, was someone who brought light to his community. Despite the violence that often overshadows Chicago’s New City neighborhood, it's clear that people are coming together to support one another in the wake of his loss.
It makes me wonder: How can communities like New City leverage this incredible human spirit to create real change? What can we do to amplify the voices calling for peace and support them in meaningful ways? Tradon’s memory should be a call to action for all of us who care about these issues. If anyone has ideas or has seen initiatives that worked in other areas, please share. Losing young men like Tradon to senseless violence should spur us into finding solutions, instead of feeling helpless. His life was precious, and our collective efforts to keep others safe can honor his memory.
