Courtney A. Smith, 30, of Leechburg, Pennsylvania, was killed on the morning of Tuesday, March 19, 2024, after a domestic dispute at Tri-Arc Manufacturing in Blawnox. A coworker witnessed Courtney and the father of her children, 42-year-old Sean Black, wrestling shortly before 6:30 a.m. A witness reported hearing Courtney plead, Sean, no, no, before she was shot multiple times in the chest. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers from Blawnox and O’Hara Township responded to 911 calls about an active shooter and found Black kneeling over Courtney with two guns nearby; he was taken into custody. Courtney’s wounded coworker was struck multiple times and transported to a hospital in critical condition. Courtney was a proud mother of three sons, Jeht, Liam, and Kole, and a member of United Steelworkers Local 9445 who worked at the plant; friends described her as kind, outgoing, and devoted to her children.
