Hey everyone, I've been following the tragic case of Hector Pomales-Torres and I can't get past thinking about the role of education in firearm safety. It's unfathomable how something meant to be an instructional moment turned into such a devastating event. My heart goes out to Hector's loved ones, who are forced to bear the pain of this senseless loss. One thing that constantly comes up is the importance of understanding that even experienced firearm owners, like Guillen Fabian-Garcia, can make serious mistakes. It emphasizes why comprehensive safety courses, emphasizing checking the chamber every single time, should be mandatory for gun owners. No one should assume they know enough to bypass proper safety checks, regardless of how many times they've handled a gun. This is a tragedy that was completely preventable, and it serves as a heartbreaking reminder for anyone with firearms in their home. I’m wishing for strength and healing for Hector’s family and friends during this unimaginable time. If anyone has thoughts on how firearm safety can be better enforced or would like to share similar stories, I’m all ears. Stay safe, everyone.
