I came across this case recently, and it’s weighing on my heart. I can't stop thinking about Ja’Kez Kyiesh Johnson and how his life was stolen away from him at such a young age. It's beyond tragic that a 19-year-old, just starting his life, fell victim to this senseless act of violence. We need to talk about the environment our youth are growing up in and what might drive teenagers to resort to such extreme measures. Seeing teenagers, like Ja’Kez and the two suspects, involved in this is terribly alarming. What’s happening in our communities that makes these young people feel that gun violence is a solution? It's a call to action for all of us to find ways to intervene before these tragedies happen. My thoughts are with Ja’Kez’s family and friends, who are undoubtedly going through an incredibly tough time right now. They deserve answers and justice, but more so, we need to work towards a future where stories like this are far less common. I truly hope the community heeds CMPD’s call for information. Public cooperation is crucial in shedding light on incidents like this. A collaborative effort can create safer neighborhoods and may even save lives.
