I’ve been following this case since it happened, and it’s so sad to see how violence has affected our community here in Durham. What really stands out about Taqon’s murder at the W.D. Hill Recreation Center is how a place meant for community and connection became the scene of such a tragedy. It must be incredibly difficult for those who frequent the center to revisit a space that once felt like a refuge. I can only imagine the feeling of loss and disruption this has caused for people who knew it as a safe haven. I attended the vigil on October 19, and seeing so many people come together to remember Taqon and all the other lives lost this year was deeply moving. It’s a stark reminder of the urgency to address the root causes of violence in our community. My heart goes out to Taqon's family and friends who have to navigate life without his presence. I hope people continue to come forward with information—every piece of evidence, no matter how small, could make a difference in bringing justice to his family. Stay strong, Durham.

I’ve been following the developments in Taqon Jayshon Blake’s case and am just so struck by the sheer senselessness of losing someone so young. What caught my attention recently are the arrest details of Tia Sonee Howell. It really makes you think about the people around us and their influence. It’s hard to wrap my head around someone being an accessory to such a terrible act. On one hand, there's a sense of relief knowing that these arrests might bring some answers and justice for Blake’s family, but on the other, it raises so many more questions about how this could have happened. Howell’s involvement must be deeply complicated, and while the legal process will work itself out, I keep wondering about how these two individuals knew each other and what led them down this path. My heart goes out to Taqon’s loved ones during what must be an incredibly painful time. Sending my thoughts to the entire Durham community, which has been shaken by not just this tragedy, but so many others this year. Let’s hope for more community dialogue and cooperation moving forward to ensure that such violence can be reduced. If anyone knows more about Howell’s background, I'd be interested in understanding how these connections form. Stay safe, everyone.
