I’ve been following the discussion about Maria Therasa Contreras, and something that’s been on my mind is the support – or lack thereof – in the workplace regarding mental health. To think that Maria felt so overwhelmed at her job at Bojangles that she saw no other way out is just devastating. It makes you wonder if there were signs that perhaps were missed by colleagues or management. It’s hard to imagine the amount of pain she must have been in. I really hope that this tragic event encourages employers to foster more open and supportive environments where employees feel they can reach out when they need help. My heart truly goes out to Maria’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time. It’s clear she left a mark on the community, and I hope her memory helps bring about positive change.
