I’ve been following the discussions around the Pembroke shooting, and it’s devastating to see how the community is coping. I wanted to talk about the response from UNC Pembroke, particularly the bans on parties and weapons around campus. It seems like a step in the right direction, but I’m wondering how enforceable these measures really are and if they’ll genuinely make students feel safer. I read that some students are voicing concerns about their personal freedoms and how these rules might impact their social lives and gatherings meant for healing and remembrance, like vigils for Nicholas and Cameron. It’s such a complex issue—balancing safety with the sense of community that students desperately need right now. I hope the university continues to engage with students and listens to their feedback to find a way to keep everyone safe without overly restricting their college experience. It’s so important to find a path that honors the victims by creating a safer environment without isolating students further during this time.
