I’ve been thinking a lot about the terrifying series of events that took place on Morgan Street. It’s incredibly sad to imagine the immense fear Latasha Cureton's family must have felt during the shooting. The fact that they initially thought the gunshots were fireworks just reminds us how unthinkable this kind of violence is in a neighborhood setting.
What really strikes me is how her son is coping. The trauma of finding his mom in such a state is unimaginable. I hope he and the rest of the family are receiving the emotional support they need. The community coming together to help, with the GoFundMe, is heartening, but it’s a stark reminder of how much they’re going through right now.
I’ve read about similar cases where it can take a while to find and bring the perpetrators to justice, but I really hope the Gastonia Police Department can get to the bottom of this. If anyone here knows how we might help beyond financial donations, maybe by spreading the word or attending vigils, let’s make sure we support them as much as possible. They truly need all the help they can get during this tough time.
