I just keep thinking about the impact this must be having on students who were present in those schools nearby. It’s terrifying to think about how this unfolded so close to where they learn and grow every day. Kids and teachers having a normal day, and then suddenly being thrown into lockdown mode. Even if the lockdown was lifted pretty quickly, I can imagine the fear and confusion must have been overwhelming for those kids and teachers. My thoughts go out to them, along with Keshawn's family and friends. I hope the community can rally around everyone affected and provide the support they need to process this trauma. It’s just so hard to comprehend such a senseless loss of life. ?
I can't stop thinking about how we send our kids to school expecting they're safe, and then something like this happens. It's haunting that the argument between Keshawn and the suspect ended in such a horrific way. My thoughts are with the Barrett family, especially knowing the excitement Keshawn must have had looking forward to graduating and celebrating his 18th birthday. It's just so chilling to see how a simple disagreement can escalate to this level of violence. I really hope there are some deep discussions around conflict resolution among young people, and that this tragedy prompts some change. If anyone has kids in the area, how are the schools addressing this with students?
I can't stop thinking about how the schools nearby had to go into lockdown because of this. I can’t imagine how frightening it must have been for the students and teachers at J.H. Rose High School and South Greenville Elementary School. Even though it was a precaution, that sense of fear must have been overwhelming. I’m glad they were able to lift the lockdowns relatively quickly, but I can't help but feel for those kids. It’s just a reminder of how this kind of violence affects more than just the immediate people involved. My heart goes out to Keshawn's family and everyone impacted by this terrible event.
