Has anyone else been keeping up with the latest on the Nazim Berry case? What a profoundly tragic loss for his family and the Crown Heights community. I’ve been thinking about the impact these kinds of senseless acts have on bodega workers, who seem to be easy targets in their roles. They work such long hours and often know so many community members by name. It must be terrifying to worry about their safety while simply trying to make a living. I read that there have been discussions about improving safety measures in these stores, but I'm curious about what that would actually look like. Possibly installing panic buttons or even protective glass like in some other places? It’s just awful that it takes something like this happening for real change to be considered. My heart is with Berry’s family as they navigate this incredibly difficult time. I hope they find some peace in knowing the community stands with them.
