I'm really struggling to wrap my head around how a young boy's life, filled with promise, could end in such a tragic way. Troy was just 13, returning from what should have been a fun night at a Nets game—it's so devastating. The fact that he managed to call his mom after being shot shows how brave he was in his final moments. I've been reading about the dynamics between these gangs, and it honestly just saddens me to think how retaliations end up dragging in kids like Troy, who might not fully comprehend the gravity of these alliances. How can we as a community intervene before it escalates to this point? There's so much emphasis on punishing the culprits, which is absolutely necessary, but shouldn't there be more focus on prevention? Programs, outreach, anything to guide these kids away from such paths? My deepest sympathies to Troy's family and friends. I hope they find some comfort knowing that so many people care, even if it's just strangers on the internet. I truly hope justice is served, but more than that, I hope we learn from this senseless loss and take stronger steps to prevent it from happening to someone else’s child.
