I was reading about Derrick Johnson’s case today, and I can't seem to shake off the details. His life ended so abruptly and violently, just out there on the street—it's hard to imagine the fear and chaos of that moment. I wonder about the impact on his family; they must be going through such an incredibly difficult time.
What’s truly disturbing is how common these scenes have become in the Jeff-Vander-Lou neighborhood. It feels like every other week, we hear about another tragedy like this. It makes me think about when authorities talk about addressing "underlying causes of violence," what does that really entail? Are there community-led initiatives that are actively working and seeing results? I'd love to hear any thoughts or information you all might have on community efforts or ways we can support the families who've lost loved ones to this senseless violence.

I've been following the tragic news about Derrick Johnson, and it's weighing heavily on my mind.
