Has anyone else been thinking about what a big loss it is not just for Serenity’s family but for all the students at Blacksburg High School and Virginia Tech? At her age, people are supposed to be thinking about SATs, prom, and all that fun senior year stuff. Instead, her friends have had to grapple with losing someone so dear to them. I’m not sure if I can fully wrap my head around it. The vigils and memorials have been such touching displays of the community’s strength and love. Seeing everyone come together to celebrate her life is a beautiful tribute, and I bet it’s what she would have wanted. The fact that they even set up a fundraiser to keep supporting local resources she believed in speaks volumes about her impact. Just heartbreaking that we lost someone with such a bright future. I hope the school offers counseling and support for those having a tough time—her friends are going to need so much love and understanding in the coming days.
