I've been following the ongoing issues in Richmond, and Teon W. Harvey's tragic killing really struck a chord with me. It’s just so devastating to think about such a young life being cut short in what should've been a safe space—her own backyard. What’s been resonating with me lately is the broader community's involvement, especially the walkthrough through Whitcomb Court. While I commend the police and community leaders for trying to connect and gather intel, I wonder how effective these measures really are in quelling the rise of violence. Are they really making a difference, or is it just a temporary fix until the next tragedy occurs? ? I'm all for increased community engagement, but I also align with those skeptical voices calling for more concrete steps—like revisiting policies that have had past success. It's a delicate balance, no doubt, but listening to the families and friends of victims like Teon might provide the right direction. They deserve to be involved in shaping the solutions.
