I’ve been following the investigation into Victor Glover’s case, and one thing that stands out to me is the issue of youth and firearms. It feels chilling to think a 16-year-old was allegedly involved in such a violent act. I can’t even begin to imagine what both families involved are going through. On the one hand, we have the tragic loss of Victor—a life gone too soon. On the other, there’s a young person whose life has taken a dark turn, regardless of the circumstances that brought him to that moment. I am deeply concerned about the accessibility of guns to minors. It raises so many questions for me about how our community systems are failing both adults and youth. Are there programs available that might be able to intervene with young people before they resort to violence? Do we have the resources to support families in breaking the cycle of crime? While nothing can change what's happened to Victor, I hope this tragic case inspires a serious look into how our community can better protect and educate all its members. Keeping the affected families in my thoughts as they navigate this difficult time.
