I can't stop thinking about how tough this must be for Gerald Bates' family and close friends. Losing someone who dedicated his life to serving others is just beyond tragic. I came across some old articles indicating how Bates was admired for his bravery and commitment to the community. It's so hard to wrap my head around the idea that someone could be taken away so suddenly and violently. I really feel for the dispatchers and firefighters who were used to seeing Buster every day on the job. That empty locker and roll call absence must be a constant reminder of the void he left behind. It's a lot for the team to absorb while they’re trying to still do their jobs and keep the community safe. I hope they're getting the support they need, too. It’s a harsh reminder of how domestic disputes can escalate to unimaginable levels. Sending strength and peace to everyone involved.
