Hey everyone,
I’ve been following the recent developments concerning Marvin Wooten, one of the latest victims of Baltimore's uptick in gun violence, and something that's been bugging me is the role of ShotSpotter technology. I read that police were notified of Marvin’s tragic shooting through ShotSpotter, which got me thinking about how crucial these kinds of technologies are in responding to urban crime.
While it’s incredibly frustrating that there are still no suspects or arrests, I can't help but wonder how much of an impact this kind of tech might have in not only responding quickly to incidents but also potentially preventing future ones. Imagine if these alerts help officers get to scenes faster, possibly saving lives or catching perpetrators red-handed.
I’m not ignoring the bigger, systemic issues at play here, but I do think there's a conversation to be had about leveraging tech like this in ongoing efforts to combat crime. My heart goes out to Marvin's family and friends during this unimaginably difficult time. We all need to come together as a community to push for solutions that prevent more senseless tragedies like this from happening again.
What do you all think? Could improving or expanding the use of technology like ShotSpotter make a real difference, or should the focus be elsewhere?
Stay safe, everyone.
