I've been following the case of Abdulkadir Shariff Gedi, and I just can't get over the fact that this was the sixth rideshare driver murder in the Seattle area since 2019. It really makes you think about the conditions and safety measures in place for these workers who are just trying to make an honest living. They deserve to feel safe on the job, just like anyone else. It's terrifying that someone like Alex Waggoner could be wandering around armed to the teeth without any intervention beforehand. I genuinely feel for Gedi's family. It's hard to imagine the pain they're going through—such a devastating loss of someone who was clearly valued not only by his family but by the whole community too. His involvement in the mosque and his dedication as a family man speaks volumes about the kind of person he was. The community in Edmonds seems to be really rallying together for Gedi, which is heartening to see amidst all this tragedy. I hope his family finds some peace and that this pushes for stronger safety protocols for all rideshare drivers. Stay safe out there, everyone.

I've been thinking a lot about the impact of Gedi's murder on the local rideshare community. It’s just so unsettling to think about how vulnerable these drivers are while simply trying to make a living. Gedi was just doing his job when he was senselessly taken away, which is a terrifying reality for others in his line of work. My heart goes out to his family and all those rideshare drivers who now have to drive with this added fear. It's troubling that this isn't the first incident like this in the area. I hope serious conversations start happening around implementing better safety measures for these workers. It can't bring Gedi back, but maybe it can prevent future tragedies.
