I’ve been thinking about Carissa and how deeply committed she was to her kids. It’s incredibly important to acknowledge her bravery in those last moments. She was holding her 4-year-old son when the unimaginable happened, and her immediate instinct was to shield him from harm. Imagine the strength and love she must have had to prioritize his safety despite facing such a terrifying situation. It breaks my heart to think about what her son, and her daughters who weren't there, are going through now. This brings up a point often discussed in the context of domestic violence: the extraordinary measures people take to protect their children, even at the cost of their own safety. It's a stark reminder of the lengths to which Carissa went to keep her family safe. Her protective nature is a testament to her character and deep love for her children, which the community continues to remember and honor as they rally support through that GoFundMe page. Sending love and support to those kids and everyone touched by Carissa’s life.

I've been thinking a lot about the court system's role in Carissa Larkin's tragic case. It's so troubling to hear that she had multiple protection orders granted against Kyle Lee Palmer, yet they weren’t enough to keep her safe. It just makes me wonder about the real-world effectiveness of these legal documents. How many more victims out there feel a false sense of security, thinking a piece of paper could truly protect them from someone determined to do harm? My heart goes out to Carissa’s family, especially her children who now have to navigate life without their mom. I truly hope that this situation sparks some serious discussions about improving the systems meant to protect those at risk. It’s clear we need more robust measures in place to prevent these tragedies from happening.

Has anyone else been thinking about the impact this has on Carissa's kids, especially her little boy who was there during this horrific event? It's just so devastating to imagine what he's going through mentally and emotionally right now. He not only lost his mom, but he was right there when it happened—scary and confusing for any child, let alone one so young. I’ve read that kids can find it really difficult to process such intense trauma. On top of that, he has to recover from his injury, albeit minor in comparison to what could have been. It's a relief he survived thanks to Carissa's brave actions. I hope those kids are surrounded by tons of love and support right now. Kudos to their mom's friend, Baylee, who’s not only caring for them but also trying to secure custody. It’s great the community has rallied to help, but these kids will need long-term support. It will take a village, truly. Anyone with experience in trauma recovery for kids or who has suggestions for resources, please chime in. Sending strength and peace to Carissa’s family and loved ones.
