It's important to acknowledge the diligence and coordination it must have taken to track them down within an hour in a different state, especially since they attempted to hide in such an unusual location. But I can't stop thinking about how preventing such tragedies in the first place should be our focus. Communities in Washington and Oregon must be feeling the weight of this incident, and I hope it sparks conversations about addressing gun violence and supporting our youth to prevent similar situations in the future.
