I’ve been following Ataiya Lashae Gordon’s case closely, and I was relieved to hear about Deandre Lewis’s arrest in connection with her tragic death. It still leaves so many questions unanswered, though. I can’t stop wondering about the impact this entire ordeal has had on Ataiya’s family and friends. The loss they must feel is unimaginable. This arrest might bring them a small sense of justice, but no doubt it falls short of providing full closure or healing. I’ve read here and there that Ataiya was a beloved friend to many, and it sounds like she had so much life ahead of her. Seeing communities come together in support throughout this is important, not only for justice but also to remember Ataiya’s life and the lives of others affected. It makes me wish more could be done to prevent such senseless acts. Let's remember both Ataiya and Bianca as we discuss this case and support those working towards justice.
