Growing up in East Cleveland, I've always known it as a community that sticks together, despite its challenges. Hearing about Damein's tragic death has stirred something deep within our neighborhood. He was always kind and carried himself with a quiet strength that many of us could see and feel, even if we didn't know him closely.
A friend of mine went to school with Damein back in the day and remembers him as someone who could bring a smile with just his presence. It's just unimaginable to think of him lying there in the street like that. There's so much grief right now, and people are demanding answers—but also, there's a strong pull to support one another through this pain.
I also want to shout out to the folks at the East Cleveland Police for moving swiftly to identify a person of interest. It's appreciated, and I hope it brings us one step closer to closure. To those of you who might know something, even if it seems small, please reach out to the authorities. Damein deserves justice, and his family deserves peace.
