Hey everyone,
I've been following the case of Anthony James Hein and Erica Wandzel, and I can't stop thinking about the role that past trauma and behavior played in this tragic event. It's been reported that Hein had a history of legal issues, including prior domestic violence charges. While no one deserves to lose their life, I think it’s important to consider how these past incidents may have created a tense and fearful environment for Erica.
I’m really wrestling with how to process this situation, especially given the Prosecutor's decision not to file charges against Erica. It seems like there's a history here that may have contributed to the tragic climax. I’m curious how others view self-defense claims in situations where one party has a documented violent past. Does it change your perspective when evaluating guilt or innocence?
My heart goes out to Anthony’s family and loved ones. It's such a complicated and painful situation for everyone involved. Wishing peace and healing for all of them, and hoping that as a community, we can better support those who feel they have to take extreme actions to protect themselves.
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and insights on this aspect of the case.
Anthony was on his way to my house. He wrecked his bike and called me. The last time we spoke was 11pm. She had contacted me before asking about our relationship even though she claimed they were just friends back in 2023. She claimed he had been attacking her all night amd that he was her roommate. I had received information that she had to go downstairs to get the gun to then go back upstairs to shoot him. She was defending herself. She killed him and got away with it because of his record.

Oh wow. What a horrible situation. I am so sorry you have had to deal with this. :(

These cases often come down to a 'he said, she said' element. It's tough without having been there and he did have previous charges of DV that he pled guilty to so that didn't look good. What I'm curious about is that all the articles I read on the case don't state her condition (medically), they just said she was looked at and released. I'm very curious if she had any noticeable injuries, bruises etc. That may have been a big determining factor on not pressing charges. Sorry though that you lost a friend. That is never and easy thing to deal with.

His Dv was against his step son who was stealing family stuff and pawning it off for drugs. He was also 6'5, I feel if he had been attacking like she claims, you would think she would've had marks on her body but they never said. It's just a unfortunate situation all around, that could've been prevented.
