I’ve been following the tragic case of Mikayla Franklin and Damarion Bailey since it first hit the news, and something that really strikes me is how unexpected and devastating events like this can leave entire families and communities trying to grasp some semblance of understanding. Mikayla was originally from New Orleans, and it's mentioned that she grew up in a loving family environment. Moving away from where you were born happens to a lot of us, but for her life to be stolen at such a young age, away from the city she first called home, must be incredibly difficult for her family to process. I can only imagine the deep ache felt as they now find themselves having to arrange a funeral for a girl who had so much more life left to live. It’s important that we come together as a community to support not just the investigation but also her family, whether we knew her or not. If anyone has even the smallest piece of information, reaching out could aid significantly in bringing justice. My thoughts are with both Mikayla’s and Damarion’s families during this unimaginably difficult time.
