I’ve been thinking about the influence of prior convictions in this tragic case. Major Sanford's past, with those serious charges like robbery and assault, really highlights the issue of repeat offenders. It's such a complex thing, but it feels like there needs to be more done in terms of rehabilitation or support systems for individuals like Sanford when they first get into trouble. I can't help but wonder if something could have been different with the right interventions before reaching this point. My heart really goes out to Shannon Awa's family and friends. They must be going through so much pain, dealing with the loss of someone they cared about in such a senseless manner. It makes me think about how important it is to have those conversations about keeping communities safe and supporting at-risk individuals before tragedies occur.
