I’ve been following the Derrick James Thornton case and something that really gets me thinking is the age of the suspect. Just 16 years old. It’s incredibly tragic on multiple levels. I can’t even imagine how the Thornton family must feel, knowing a teenager is accused in Derrick’s murder. It’s a stark reminder of how youth violence can devastate communities. It’s hard to wrap my head around the fact that someone so young could be charged with such a serious crime. What went wrong along the way for this to happen? The case highlights a deep-rooted problem in society. I hope the investigation is thorough and both families find some sense of closure. It’s a difficult situation for everyone involved, and my thoughts are with them.
