I’ve been thinking a lot about the increasing violence in Shreveport and how it’s affecting our community. The tragic loss of Martavious D. Henderson and Anthony M. Lee really hits close to home, literally and figuratively. I live not far from the Highland neighborhood, and seeing the yellow police tape and hearing sirens so often lately is unsettling. It’s terrifying to think that this happened at a place most of us visit regularly, just going about our daily lives.
I really feel for Martavious's and Anthony's families. Losing someone so young and in such a violent manner must be a pain I can't imagine. I hope they find strength and support during this unimaginably difficult time.
Considering the speculation that this may have been a robbery attempt, it makes me question whether local businesses are doing enough to safeguard both their customers and employees. Maybe it's time for the community and business owners to collaborate on better security measures. Also, if anyone heard or saw something, please come forward. Even the smallest detail could bring much-needed answers to their families and, hopefully, bring the perpetrator to justice.
