I've been thinking about the tragic loss of Teressa Calligan and how deeply it's affected the Baton Rouge community. As someone who was actively involved in nonprofit work myself, I find it incredibly inspiring that Teressa dedicated so much of her time to initiatives like the Futures Fund at the Walls Project. It's rare to find individuals who give so generously of their time and skills to lift others up, especially today's youth. Her efforts in teaching coding and tech skills were paving the way for so many young people to have better futures.
I can't help but think about the teens who benefited from her mentorship and how they must be feeling right now. Losing a mentor can hit you hard, especially when it's someone who has such a positive influence on your life. I really hope these young people continue to pursue their dreams in tech, as I believe Teressa would have wanted them to carry on and succeed, despite the heartache they must be experiencing.
My thoughts are also with her family and the deputies who were injured. This senseless act of violence has created so much pain, and it's heart-wrenching that a figure so pivotal in the community was taken so suddenly. I hope the authorities can quickly identify and bring to justice those responsible for this great loss.
