I've been following the case of Breyasia Maxine Walker, and something that's been on my mind is the impact of these tragic events on the young people in the community. Breyasia was so involved in different activities—cheerleading, dance, sports, singing—you name it. It sounds like she was really a role model for her peers. What kind of message does this send to all the other kids who looked up to her or shared teams and activities with her? It breaks my heart to think about the loss of such a vibrant life and how her friends must be feeling now. The community organized that beautiful balloon release at the site of the tragedy. I can't help but think it must have been both uplifting and incredibly difficult for her friends and family. I hope gatherings like these can spark some change and push more conversations around what we can do to prevent these senseless acts of violence in the future. It's time we figure out how to better support our youth and ensure safer environments for them. Sending all my love and strength to Breyasia's family and everyone affected.
