At the time he went missing, Anthony was described as a white male, 5'9' and weighing around 165 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a green t-shirt, green khaki pants, and brown sandals. A notable characteristic was that he sometimes wore a patch over his left eye and had an appendectomy scar on his abdomen.
Anthony, who was born in Idaho and had relatives in the St. Louis area, was living at the residential care facility to help manage his paranoid schizophrenia, as he had not been consistently taking his required medication. The staff at the center described him as a quiet and passive individual who posed no danger to others. His mother, who resided in Colorado, expressed that it was uncharacteristic of him not to be in touch, especially if he needed money. On the day he vanished, it is believed he had no money with him. Despite being a chain smoker, he also apparently left without any cigarettes.

The last known sighting of Anthony places him at a convenience store in Potosi, Missouri, though the exact details of this encounter remain unclear.
