I’ve been thinking a lot about how we often talk about preventing these tragedies, but it seems like we’re not really getting anywhere. Reading about Patrick Landers Jr. and Rickoshay Kerr is a tough reminder of just how real and awful this is for families. It’s horrifying to think how little Patrick was alone and vulnerable, especially when the signs were there that something violent could happen.
It’s frustrating because Lacie Kerr did everything she could - filing for divorce, getting the restraining order. Yet, somehow, it wasn’t enough. How can we make these protective orders more effective? It’s clear that something must change so that restraining orders can truly serve as a protection, instead of just a piece of paper.
My heart goes out to Patrick’s family and those who loved him. No family should have to endure this kind of tragedy. I hope this brings more awareness to domestic violence issues and better protection measures in the future. Stay strong, everyone – it’s through community support and raising our voices that we can push for real change.
Hey everyone,
I've been following the tragic events in Damascus, Oregon, and my heart goes out to the families involved, especially to Patrick Landers and his loss. One thing that's been on my mind is the situation with the restraining order. Many of us assume they're solid protective measures, but this incident forces us to dig a little deeper. It seems Rickoshay Kerr was able to completely bypass it with such alarming consequences.
I wonder if there's more that could be done both in terms of law enforcement response and community support to make restraining orders more effective. How can we balance people's safety with the complexities of these situations? Given Kerr's court appearance and the clear warnings of self-harm and violence, it just feels like there was an opportunity to prevent this. Has anyone else seen instances where protective orders failed, and were there alternative measures that proved more effective?
Sending strength to all who are processing this tragedy. Let's hope for meaningful discussions and actions that might prevent another family from going through such devastation.
Stay safe out there.
It's difficult to wrap my mind around the layers of sadness and frustration surrounding this tragedy. My thoughts are with Patrick and his family as they navigate such an unimaginable loss. I can't help but focus on the role that the restraining order was supposed to play. I know these orders are meant to offer a layer of protection, but this case highlights some serious shortcomings in the system. It makes me wonder, what more can be done to support those in similar situations? Are there ways to improve how these orders are enforced to prevent something like this from happening again? My heart goes out to everyone affected by this, and I hope changes are made that can better protect people in the future.
