The bigger issue at play here is how frequent these incidents have become in South Bend — 16 incidents since 2016 is far too many. It's a stark reminder that we need to advocate more for secure gun storage and to ensure those who have firearms in their homes are educated about the risks and responsibilities. This isn't just about legal repercussions; it's about the moral obligation to protect the most vulnerable among us. My heart sincerely goes out to Kylin's family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.

As a community, we desperately need to come together to find ways to prevent these kinds of incidents. Whether it's advocating for safer gun storage practices, mandatory safety locks, or addressing this issue through community outreach and education, something needs to change so that no more innocent lives are lost in this manner.
